BARLINEK AT ŁÓDŹ DESIGN

Poland's most important design festival took place between 9-17 October. There the event's partner, Barlinek, presented a special installation by the architect Przemo Łukasik and the Medusa Group. During the ceremony there was also a lecture and the resolution of the competition to design a Barlinek Creations from Nature board.

Design Łódź Festival rounds off this year's project calendar at the Barlinek Institute of Design. The institute, which currently only operates on the Polish market, constitutes a platform for collaboration with architects and designers. Its main aim is to promote wood — to provide inspiration to make use of it creatively and education about its qualities and potential for use.

Łódź played host to the final of the Institute's projects — a competition to design a Barlinek Creations from Nature floorboard. 15 design teams reached the second stage of the contest from among those which took part in the artisan workshops at the Barlinek factory in July. The finalists' designs were assessed by a jury composed of acclaimed architects, Barlinek representatives and the competitions substantive partner — Design Alive magazine. The results and names of the 3 winners were announced on 18 October (we will provide the details in the next news).

The announcement of the results was preceded by a lecture by Przemo Łukasik — one of the best known Polish architects, creator of the first loft in Poland (the legendary Bolko Loft in Bytom) and at the same time a juror in the Barlinek contest. The meeting constituted a journey into the world of nature — man and architecture. How does human nature influence architecture and vice versa? What happens when human desires are predefined? How does Przemo cope with this challenge, not only as co-creator of one of the most acclaimed architectural studios in Poland, but also as someone with unusual passions?

The lecture was complemented by Przemo Łukasik's wood-inspired spatial installation, and also the idea of the Creations from Nature competition. The wooden structure was not only a visually attractive element of the festival space, but also, thanks to the comfortable seating arranged inside it and the enchanting scent of wood, a popular place for the guests to relax and indulge in contemplation. This made it hard not to notice us! .
